Opera Naples Youth
“From Operettas to Pop”
Opera Naples Youth features the advanced talent of the most promising local students
Members of Opera Naples’ Student Apprentice Program present classical songs, folk songs, arias, operetta and musical theater. The Program gives local students, ages 7-21, training and public performance opportunities in Mainstage Operas and in various community outreach events. Private vocal coaching and chorus training is provided as well as group master classes.
For many of these youth, the highlight of their year is Opera Naples’ Summer Youth Program, a two-week intensive program that culminates in the performance of an operetta for the public. All are accepted into the summer program regardless of talent or experience.

The Naples Philharmonic Youth Jazz Orchestra
“Fresh Sounds of Jazz“
The Naples Philharmonic Youth Jazz Orchestra (NPYJO) celebrates its third year in 2017-18. Led by Dan Miller, trumpeter for the Naples Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra, the NPYJO studies the repertoire and arrangements of jazz greats, such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. Students will also study jazz improvisation, small group arranging and original jazz composition techniques.
Dan has performed several times for CAPA starting in 2012 and organized the jazz segment of our 2013-2014 season. Dan has worked with high school student musicians for years and has participated in fund-raisers for kids “aging out” of the 20th Judicial District Dependency system. He spent eleven years in the Harry Connick Jr. Orchestra, traveling the world and recording. He also toured with Wynton Marsalis, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Jones and Woody Herman and performed with The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, The Lionel Hampton Orchestra, Branford Marsalis and Randy Brecker.
Nearly 20 students from the area have auditioned and been accepted to participate in the newest student ensemble. The NPYJO is an educational ensemble grown out of the Naples Philharmonic Jazz Orchestra and the All That Jazz series.
