These young Naples Philharmonic Artists’ program will embrace classics from Gabrieli to Ellington to Brubeck. You will experience the joy of seasonal, classical, contemporary standards and jazz.
The Naples Philharmonic Brass Quintet was founded in 1990. The group has played recitals and concerts in Southwest Florida for 25 seasons. In 1992, the young artists took first prize in the prestigious Summit Brass Competition in Keystone, Colorado. In 1997 they traveled across the Atlantic to France and took second prize in the Narbonne Brass Quintet Competition.
Matthew Sonneborn, in his 28th year as Principal Trumpet with the Naples Philharmonic. Matthew is also the adjunct instructor of Trumpet at Florida Gulf Coast University.
David Dash, assistant principal trumpet, was a member of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band prior to joining the Naples Philharmonic.
Tracy Leonard, assistant principal horn. Previously she traveled the United States and Europe with tours of The King and I, Into the Woods and West Side Story.
Michael Zion, principal trombone, was principal trombone with the Cincinnati Pops orchestra on a tour of Japan and Taiwan. He performed with the Boston Pops and many others.
Aaron McCalla, principal tuba, has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Boston, Albany, Vermont, Rhode Island, Jacksonville symphonies and toured with the Boston Pops.
