Only sixteen Naples students have been named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists.
We are particularly proud that one of them, Christopher Myers, a senior at Barron Collier High School has performed for CAPA and will be performing again as part of The Myers-Dimaras Showcase on March 31, 2017 for CAPA’s Rising Stars Series.
Chris has played piano for 12 years, winning awards with Naples Music Club and the Steinway piano competition. He was pianist for All-County Honors Band for two years and for Artis-Naples’ Philharmonic Youth Orchestra for their spring concert.
The honorees, chosen based on their Preliminary SAT or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores, make up less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors.
Chris says that music and scholarship really work together. He said, “learning, memorizing and performing music exercises your ability to understand nuances – the small but important things that help prepare you for effective learning and testing.”
He’s hoping to attend a small college that can also leverage those qualities through personal teaching.
National Merit Scholarship Finalists will be selected in February, based on their academic record, SAT scores, leadership skills, involvement in extracurricular activities and general accomplishments.
